Many donors prefer to make a gift of stocks, bonds, or other exchange-traded assets to maximize potential tax benefits.

GIFT STOCKS

Donors 70.5 or older with a traditional IRA are eligible to make tax-free contributions from their IRAs regardless of whether they itemize on their tax returns or not. These can also count towards any required minimum distributions.
